I was listening to a Christmas station when I drove back to work from lunch and "You're a Mean One Mr. Grinch" came on. I smiled and sang along to parts that I knew. Then I started thinking about Dr. Seuss. I wonder how many children developed (knowingly or unknowingly) a life-long love of language thanks to Dr. Suess. He had such vivid and clever way with language that's really kind of joyful, I think.
"Given the choice between you and seasick crocodile, I'll take the seasick crocodile."
"Three words to describe you are, and I quote: stink. stank. stunk!"
I mean, lyrics like that are just wonderful. How can you not fall in love with a clever use of words?
