It's written by a former National Park Service historian at Gettysburg with the title These Honored Dead: How the Story of Gettysburg Shaped American Memory. The reviewer said the alternate title could have been "Why Everything You Think You Know About Gettysburg is Wrong." Anyway, it looks like a really interesting book and something you might enjoy. A bit from the review:
.... he wears his immense learning lightly and maintains an indulgent tone even when recounting the ridiculous questions posed by battlefield tourists ("how did they get all the bullet holes out of the statues?"). [hee!] And in addition to correcting various mis-impressions, his more important accomplishment is to have crafted a sophisticated case study about the construction of historical memory..."
