Summary:: The hardest part of having a pet is the inevitable goodbye at the end. When the day comes for Cassie and her dog, Jack is there for her.

Between the claiming of the prompt and the writing of the story, the colonel became the general.

Summary:: In an alternate universe very nearly identical to ours, the events of Forever in a Day happened in real time rather than in an instant..

Once upon a time, in the midst of a discussion thread for Forever in a Day, I lamented that I had to abandon as unworkable an elaborate theory that the events of that episode happened over the course of time rather than instantaneously. Someone suggested that it could be done as an alternate universe story. I thought that was a good idea and got started. A few years later I came across the unfinished story on my computer and decided it was time to give it an ending.

Notes: I'm ordinarily a stickler for canon. There's one exception. I refuse to acknowledge the final few minutes of the final episode of Quantum Leap. That may or may not a be factor in this story. My apologies for that particular blind spot.

( Intersecting Leaps )

My lovely co-mod, traycer_ has unveiled the second prompt for our fledgling sg-1 story community. It's a great choice that could lead a writer in all sorts of different directions, dramatic or comedic. Perhaps I'll even find my lost writing mojo and come up with something to contribute. (That alone would represent a 100% increase in participation.)

*A pointless confession: I've been kicking myself for forever, that it didn't occur to me until I had (sort of accidentally) set up the community page that I might have named the community sg-one_prompt.

So, there's my Jack/Sara fic that's due soon. And a Beast of Burden recap that's due soon. Therefore, it's a good time to slap together a vid instead. (Though I have made some progress on the rather odd fic that I'm planning.)

One more Fic Commentary. aurora_novarum asked for either Birthday or Team’s Night Out. Because I’m in avoidance mode on other projects, I’m doing both.

This story has probably gotten the best response of any that I’ve done. It was also one of the scariest for me to do. I’m always a little nervous when I post a new story, but I was especially so for this one because it was my first attempt at pure humor. Angst or drama or anything “serious” doesn’t really make me as nervous because I can always chalk up people not liking something to differences in taste. Humor that doesn’t work, however, is deadly. Which is why even though I probably get the best responses to my more humorous pieces, they’re also the ones that are the most nerve-wracking. With that intro, on to the story.

sg_betty asked about Coming Home and gave the option of doing a commentary or doing a meta. I chose to do a commentary. Since it's a long, long story I'm posting it at Dreamwidth where it can all go in one post.

It's kind of an interesting exercise to go through these. Seeing what doesn't work as well as you thought it did. Seeing what does. Finding the typos that you didn't see the other 200 times you read the story.

One down. Others to come. Possibly a bonus commentary.

So it begins.

A few years ago, I decided that I would stay away from fandom activities. One thing led to another and I started writing fics. More things led to more things, which has led to me creating a community for Stargate SG-1* stories. one_prompt (One Prompt, Many Stories) is a community wherein all writers will write to the same prompt. A new prompt will be issued every quarter.

Prompts are now open.

The first prompt will be assigned on July 1.

Guidelines and links to instructions and general information are on the profile page.

Gen, het, and slash are all fair game. Time will tell, but I think the set up that I've got planned will allow those who are only interested in reading a specific genre of story to find them easily.

I got a lot of really great feedback from my initial "gauging interest" poll. I've tried to incorporate and balance the good ideas offered there with my own preferences and interests. Hopefully what results is something that will be enjoyable for a broad range of people.

Also, a thank you to traycer_ who has also lost her mind agreed to serve as a co-moderator.

As I've commented elsewhere, this is likely to be either great fun, a great disaster, or possibly a great, fun disaster. Personally, I'm hoping for great fun.
