There's probably nobody on my flist who wouldn't have seen this in the community announcement, but all the same we have a new prompt up at [livejournal.com profile] one_prompt. I even have a story idea for it. I hope others are intrigued enough to come up with stories to add. In spite of the fact that I only got my story for the last prompt half finished, I'm feeling optimistic that I'll get this one done. For one thing it will be a shorter story.

Of course I thought the last one would only be about 1500-2000 words. I think it's currently at @ 4,000 and is only about half done. I'm determined to get it done eventually though. It's a pretty silly premise, and involves crimes against science at the center of the plot, but I've fallen in love with the idea of it.

I also had a plot bunny hit me last night for a Quantum Leap/SG-1 crossover. It's a fairly ambitious idea and I'm not sure that I'm skilled enough to pull off the story that I want to do, but I'm hoping to build up enough momentum to give it a try.

And, I'd like to get back to finishing up my rougher than rough draft of my FiAD story and seeing if I can make anything of it.

Now all that's required is the gumption to get to work on them and not let myself be distracted by shiny things.

We've just unscreened the entries to this quarter's prompt over at [livejournal.com profile] one_prompt.

The quality and quantity is a vast improvement over the first attempt. Not hard considering participation in the first round was nil!

Seriously, though, there are some good stories. And if you, like me, are still working on yours, or if you're inspired to do one, we will accept late submissions. Participation is always welcome.

Eeee!

We have submissions to this round of [livejournal.com profile] one_prompt! Yay! I'm forcing myself not to read them before the official unveiling sometime tomorrow.

Of course, in the grand tradition of procrastinators everywhere, I don't see any way that I'll get my own submission finished by tomorrow. But I hope to get it finished very soon thereafter. It's (as usual) turning out longer than I anticipated. Curse my need to set scenes and try to create color and storyline underpinnings that no one will care that much about.

I've successfully written something! Yay!

It's the introductory segment of my [livejournal.com profile] one_prompt story.

It might be the best thing I've ever written. Or possibly it's pretentious and bad. It's hard to say. But at the moment I'm pleased with it.

Now, if I can just get the rest of it figured out.

My lovely co-mod, [livejournal.com profile] traycer_ has unveiled the second prompt for our fledgling sg-1 story community. It's a great choice that could lead a writer in all sorts of different directions, dramatic or comedic. Perhaps I'll even find my lost writing mojo and come up with something to contribute. (That alone would represent a 100% increase in participation.)

Check it out and feel free to play along. Everyone is welcome.

*A pointless confession: I've been kicking myself for forever, that it didn't occur to me until I had (sort of accidentally) set up the community page that I might have named the community sg-one_prompt.

So it begins.

A few years ago, I decided that I would stay away from fandom activities. One thing led to another and I started writing fics. More things led to more things, which has led to me creating a community for Stargate SG-1* stories. one_prompt (One Prompt, Many Stories) is a community wherein all writers will write to the same prompt. A new prompt will be issued every quarter.

Prompts are now open.

The first prompt will be assigned on July 1.

Guidelines and links to instructions and general information are on the profile page.

Gen, het, and slash are all fair game. Time will tell, but I think the set up that I've got planned will allow those who are only interested in reading a specific genre of story to find them easily.

I got a lot of really great feedback from my initial "gauging interest" poll. I've tried to incorporate and balance the good ideas offered there with my own preferences and interests. Hopefully what results is something that will be enjoyable for a broad range of people.

Also, a thank you to traycer_ who has also lost her mind agreed to serve as a co-moderator.

As I've commented elsewhere, this is likely to be either great fun, a great disaster, or possibly a great, fun disaster. Personally, I'm hoping for great fun.

Eeeek!

*SG-1 crossovers to SGA or SGU will be welcome.

In a fit of either masochism, optimism, or possibly a combination of both, I've created a community [livejournal.com profile] one_prompt for One Prompt, Many Stories. (Actually, that was a bit of an accident. I was playing around with some preliminary stuff and when I accidentally hit save, I wound up with a community page.) Anyway, I've created a poll to see what, if any, interest there might be for the idea. I figured I might as well post the poll there.

Any feedback you want to leave at the linked-to poll would be appreciated. Also, would some of y'all who have broader roots in the SG-1 fandom mind posting a link to the poll too? (http://community.livejournal.com/one_prompt/300.html)

There may be zero interest in this idea and that's okay. But the idea has been running around in my head enough that I'd like to see if anyone else would want to participate in something like this.
