I've probably done a similar polly thing before--either here or at other forums--but the subject interests me so here it is again.

[Poll #1073483]

Please feel free to expand on the topic of dreams, lucid dreaming, or things related to sleep and dreaming in general in the comments. Any lucid dreamers out there care to share how they accomplished it?

ETA: Crap! I always forget something in the poll answers. I meant to have some sort of "tried but not accomplished" type answer for the lucid dreaming section. Uh, I guess "other" can cover a multitude of things.

Yay I get to talk about myself!

I have very interesting, long story dreams that frequently involve complicated internal logic and impressive visual effects. Unfortunately, I also have a minor chemical imbalance that causes me to get stuck in the REM stage of sleep and prevents me from getting delta wave sleep. So I have to take a prescription that partially suppresses REM sleep and helps my sleep cycle follow a more normal pattern (because otherwise the nervous system doesn't get repaired and I start reacting very poorly to stress) so I don't get to remember my dreams like I used to. Even when I do remember them, they don't make much sense like they used to. I kind of miss the epic movie dreams, but I guess it's a small price to pay for actually feeling rested in the morning and having a functioning immune system.

My dreams are often very vivid and often shift wildly from scene to scene. I wish I were better at remembering them. What's really weird for me is when something will happen during the day that I think reminds me of a dream I had the night before, but I can't recall more than that. It's like having these ideas or images in my mind that I can't quite capture.

Someday I might have the discipline to work on techniques to remember dreams better.
