where the wild things are

smg01In all the excitement over the election events, I forgot about posting this yesterday.
The building where I work happens to be located adjacent to a small area that remains undeveloped and still somewhat wooded. (Hopefully it will remain that way for many years to come.) What this means is that even though we're in town and located near a quite busy street, there's also interesting wildlife about.
There are, of course, the ever-present squirrels and rabits. A pretty good variety of birds stop by to snack at the bird feeders that a couple of employees have set up. In the evenings, the deer come out. On at least one occasion we've a whole gaggle of deer around the feeders, nudging them and eating the seeds that had fallen to the ground. I've also seen a fox, although it's been several years since that sighting. And a coyote once.
There have also been many reported sightings of a bobcat by other employees. I finally saw it for the first time a few weeks ago when it wandered around the building. Which of course led to most of the staff going from window to window following its movement.
Then, yesterday morning, the bobcat returned. We were all happily watching it move around some of the shrubbery. It was so adorable that you just wanted to go out and scoop it up in your arms. (Note: I wouldn't advise actually trying to do such a thing.) Then all of the sudden a juvenile bobcat came into sight. While all looked at it, a second one emerged. And then a third came into view. I'm theorizing that Mama Bobcat was taking her cubs on a field trip/hunting lesson. It was pretty neat.
