We have a subscription to The New Republic at work. I don't read it much anymore because over the last several years it seems to have moved more and more to the right. But I leafed through the latest issue today, and my eye fell on the quote (under the headline Abu Ghraib Idiocy Watch):

"I'm sure that our committees are going to be asking the right questions. ... But a full-fledged congressional investigation--that's like saying we need an investigation every time there's policy brutality on the street."--House Majority Leader Tom DeLay

So, does that mean that we should be accepting police brutality as part of our everyday lives? Isn't that kinda more what you expect when you live under a dictatorship rather than the standard bearer of the free world?

I have such silly ideals.

Today, listening to NPR, I continued thinking of the state of things that were, that are and that could be in our national government. I really nearly cried. I have some tough choices coming in the November elections, ones that I do not relish.
