Who watches Touching Evil.....

..... and can catch me up a bit?

I've only seen bits and pieces of this show (I've liked what I've seen), but I'm confused. Why did Creegan's wife and children need to go into protective custody? Is he and by extension his family the target of a stalker or the mob? Why the need to get them so firmly out of contact with him?
