As the NBA finals started, I had the suspicion and hope that the Pistons would pull out the series. I kept saying Lakers in 6 to keep from jinxing Detroit. Now, the media in general seems to have hopped aboard the Pistons bandwagon and all but ordained them as champions. I'm a little worried that a jinx factor may come into play. Yeah, no NBA team has over come back from 3-1 down, but there's always a first time. I just don't want this to be that first time.

In other words, GO PISTONS!

Ralph Wiley was a sportswriter for SportsIllustrated, an author, and most recently wrote for Page 2 at espn.com. He was a good writer, brilliant, sometimes infuriating, frequently thought provoking. He died suddenly on Sunday night, and in tribute Page 2 devoted today's content to him. They included his very first article for Page 2 which was written for September 12, 2001. By the end of the piece, he'd made me cry:
