smg01: (album cover)
Post the first lines from your last 20 stories. Do you see any patterns?

(I don't have twenty stories to choose from yet. But since it's like creating every sentence in my current WIP is like pulling teeth, I thought I'd do this for a bit.)

1. He woke up in a foul mood.

2. How do you pick up the threads of an old life? (a quote)
Sarah awoke as Daniel sat next to her on the hospital bed. (first written-by-me line)

3. Sara slowly picked up the receiver and slowly began dialing.

4. "Poker?" Daniel wondered.

5. SG-1 trudged toward the gate at the end of a long, trying day.

6. SG-1 enjoyed the night and a quiet companionability as they sat around the campfire.

7. General Hammond had been determined to leave the SGC on time for a change.

It appears that I'm usually looking to set a mood or frame of mind. Figuring out the closing sentence is almost always a challenge for me. (Sometimes when I leave a phone message I tend to go on and on because I can't seem to find the right concluding words. Occasionally I feel that way when I'm writing too.) But the opening sentence/paragraph is often a challenge for me too.
