They are of the devil... One, it's irritating as all get out. Two, I can't think of anything more demeaning for two individuals than to be lumped together as though they no longer exist as separate entities. Gah!!!
I remember first encountering them some years ago in the Soap Opera world. At first they were kind of cute because they were used sparingly and seemed to be only for the super-special couples. Once the practice proliferated to virtually any two characters that ever shared screentime together on any show ever, I found it much less cute and fun.
I hold on to the hope--which waxes and wanes--that the practice will eventually die out.
I've always been pleased that it doesn't seem to exist, or at least isn't prevalent, in SG-1 fandom.
I realized after posting the poll that I should have included a question asking what that new hobby should be. My life is just full of missed opportunities.
Yeah, the real people thing is a later development I think. In my recollection it had been going on for some time in connection with television before it bled into RL with things like TomKat or Brangelina.
