Okay. If I import all of my LJ entries to Dreamwidth, do the various locked entries remain locked? And all of those entries won't register as new entries on other people's reading list, right?

Yes, all your various protection levels will get imported with the entries, and everything is backdated, so they won't show up as new entries on people's lists.

Thanks. I was just about to hit the button to import and suddenly had horrible visions of subjecting my few subscribers to page after page of my inane posts.

If you're at your profile page, go to the "organize" link. Under that is "import content." Once you select that, you make a few clicks and you're done. It's very user friendly.

Ok, so what's the big deal with Dreamwidth, anyway? Is everyone abandonning LJ? Am I gonna be the only person left over here?

Dreamwidth is pretty spiffy. Still, I think I'll be at LJ for the duration. Everything's all comfy here, after all. But I like to prepared to follow if people try to get away from me make a mass migration.

I know a number of people who are using Dreamwidth as a backup in case LJ goes dark but who are not planning to stop using LJ unless LJ goes dark.
