newbie question

Here's one of those newbie questions that should probably be clear to me, but isn't. Where do you all go to find those excellent avatars?

Oh, we make them! Or we get our friends with Photoshop to make them. ;)

Speaking personally, I make them - but there are various LJ communities out there, like iconaddicts and buffy_icons that are dedicated to icons...

But, if you fancy trying your hand making an icon, it has to be smaller than 40k, PNG, GIF or JPG, and less than 100x100 pixels in dimension - if you've got some pictures that fit the bill, you can upload them at http://www.livejournal.com/editpics.bml

Find a picture, crop it and chuck it up as an Icon - or collar someone and demand they make one for you :)

I made a bunch of mine, and got some from other people who make them too.

I'd be happy to make you one/some, iffn you want.
