This piece was in the local paper yesterday. I thought it was well done and nicely highlighted the way two different mothers with the same motivations can reach very different decisions. Mothers in Kansas, Florida recall their life-or-death decisions

I thought it was pretty powerful. I felt teary for both families by the end of the article.

me too. I've understood both sides of the Shiavo case, although I have to admit I'm on the husbands side. Only because I saw something go through being kept alive with a feeding tube. It's not a life anyone would want. (*at least that is what it felt like to me when I watched my father die.)

*nod* I saw that yesterday in the LA Times. I thought it was exceptionally well written and non-judgemental of either mother.

I agree. One of the many things that I've found disturbing about the Shiavo situation is the willingness of people on both sides of the debate to demonize those on the other. It's a hard, hard thing to deal with no matter what "right" decision is reached. My heart goes out to anyone who has to weigh the alternatives and figure out what's best.
