Feb. 17th, 2004 08:12 amI've been thinking about a phone call that I got the other day at work. Someone had called to request a book catalog and be put on the mailing list. Then in the course of the conversation he has to work in how much of a book person he his. Very good. How his family didn't have a television growing up. Fine. And how he doesn't watch television at all, his house is full of books. The woman he lives with, unfortunately likes tv, so she watches in one room while he reads in his study. Because he finds most television insipid.
You know, I get not enjoying television--that's certainly understandable. And I certainly get loving books and reading. I have no disagreement with that. But what I find really annoying is the whole moral superiority some people exhibit over their non-television watching ways. Not liking tv doesn't necessarily make you a better, smarter, more worthy person. It makes you someone who doesn't like television.
*hmph*
