Once again I looked at the kitchen when I went home at lunch, and once again I wished that someone would wash the dirty dishes that have stacked up. I wish someone would do the laundry while they're at it too. I'm very disappointed in the lack of productivity from the elves. I'm beginning to think they may not exist.

I find that if you leave whips in obvious places, and rewards, too, (the "carrot and stick approach") the elves tend to be FAR more productive.

also, be grateful you don't have any SO elves, roomate elves, or children elves on site, who would leave EXTRA dishes and laundry, rather than doing yours.

Too true. I told my family recently that they're all going to have to move out soon. *g* It's not that nobody does the work, but just that with others here, well, they make more mess. *g* When I'm here alone, it's so easy to keep things neater and even if I leave a mess, it's not a big mess. *g*

Yeah. I realize that all of that sleeping leaves little room for anything else. Still, though, you'd think they could find time to wash a couple of plates. ;)

There's a Peanuts comic where Frieda comes up and complains about Snoopy lying on his doghouse all the time when he could be productive (probably her and her chasing rabbits).

After she leaves, Snoopy "says":
I'm not sleeping, I'm resting to be ready if something important happens...It probably won't, but if it does, I'll be ready."

Perhaps you've been leaving out clothes for the house elves and setting them free? The laundry must have confused them.
