The four-legged money pit strikes again. I gave her a little mini-bath last night just to sort neaten things up a bit around her hind quarters. It was after that that I noticed a little scabby area on her flank. And a small circular area that seemed a little short on fur.

Took her into the vet this morning and my suspicion was confirmed. It's a hot spot. (I'd never seen one before so I wasn't sure.) The vet thought that it was probably a pressure spot from lying on her side. So he shaved the area, gave me some antibiotics, and some topical ointment that should help the area feel a little better. I almost waited a few days to let the "scab" heal up and drop off on its own. I'm glad I didn't. I got her in before her fur could mix in much and become imbedded the sore. And I don't think the sore itself has penetrated too deeply into the tissue.

Overall, she seems relatively content though. She doesn't seem to much like having that area touched or prodded (understandable), but she's not really acting like she's miserable either. She is a little funny looking with that shaved area, though.

It's good you took her in. Hot spots can spread.

*hugs* to you and *vibes* to Sheba.

They are pricey, aren't they? You'd think they could get a job and earn some money, but rarely does that happen.

We once took the little dog to some kind of commercial shoot as a backup for some other little dog. She was there for about four hours and made $50. But that's it. Otherwise she's running a huge deficit.

It's a good thing they're so cute and provide good companionship. Otherwise their lack of employment could be even more of an issue.

As an odd coinkydink, I just had my first run-in with a hot spot myself. Poor pooch.

We use ttouch on our dogs. It seems to work, especially the wrapping part.

ttouch is amazing. I spent two weeks at a horse clinic with Linda's sister Robyn this summer (she lives less than an hour from me!) and it was AMAZING. Totally cool stuff. I plan to someday become a horse practitioner.

We had some lady from around here as a trainer. Our borzoi club sponsored a class. The wifey has the book for dogs.

They're not very pretty looking once they're uncovered.

On the bright side for Sheba, the round of antibiotics means she'll get a couple of doses of peanut butter a day. (I hide pills in pb which seems easier for both of us: she thinks she's getting a treat and I don't get looked at as the meanest mommy in the world for trying to get her to swallow something that she needs.)
