smg01The four-legged money pit strikes again. I gave her a little mini-bath last night just to sort neaten things up a bit around her hind quarters. It was after that that I noticed a little scabby area on her flank. And a small circular area that seemed a little short on fur.
Took her into the vet this morning and my suspicion was confirmed. It's a hot spot. (I'd never seen one before so I wasn't sure.) The vet thought that it was probably a pressure spot from lying on her side. So he shaved the area, gave me some antibiotics, and some topical ointment that should help the area feel a little better. I almost waited a few days to let the "scab" heal up and drop off on its own. I'm glad I didn't. I got her in before her fur could mix in much and become imbedded the sore. And I don't think the sore itself has penetrated too deeply into the tissue.
Overall, she seems relatively content though. She doesn't seem to much like having that area touched or prodded (understandable), but she's not really acting like she's miserable either. She is a little funny looking with that shaved area, though.

(I hide pills in pb which seems easier for both of us: she thinks she's getting a treat and I don't get looked at as the meanest mommy in the world for trying to get her to swallow something that she needs.)
