It's only bear-proof if you follow the instructions

It's the story of two bear cubs trapped in a bear-proof dumpster. No bears or humans were harmed in the playing out of this story.

one of my dad's colleagues walked out his back door yesterday morning, and looked into his gully. There was momma bear and 3 cubs, who promptly climbed WAY up into the willow tree. Conservation relocated them, as the tree was a WEE bit close to a school bus stop.

and when I was driving home the other night, I saw what I thought at first glance was a large black dog in the middle of the road. Then I looked again - nope, it was a young black bear, about 2 years, who decided that maybe heading off into the bush again was a smart choice ;).

Bears are cool. I hate that so many of them are killed every year because people are stupid and fail to manage garbage properly, and because we keep moving into/building on their terrain.
