Yes, I do enjoy the soaps. And occasionally I'll go on a rant about them.

I've watched Days of Our Lives during my lunch hour off and on over the years. Usually flipping back and forth with All My Children. Over the years DOOL had become progressively worse and worse: stupid stories that stretched on and on with little to no movement, horrendous dialog, and outrageous plot twists that didn't weren't entertaining. The head writer was finally relieved of his duties and the new one (Hogan Sheffer) has been on board for a month. It's been an exciting change. The stories are moving along. The characters say things that make sense. Character all over the canvas are interacting with each other. It's turned into a show that I look forward to because I'm anxious to see things unfold next. It's genuinely turned into a show I find entertaining.

Sadly, All My Children continues to spiral in the other direction. This used to be such a great show, with good characters, meaningful stories, and a sense of history. All of that has been trashed. Every so often, I tune in for a minute and I'm met with characters I don't recognize played by actors who aren't very good. And even the longtime characters have become unrecognizable due to the flagrant character assassination of the writing. Megan McTavish should be run out of town for what she's done to this show. All soaps go through peaks and valleys, but this is beyond that. AMC been reduced to an embarrassing shambles of a production and I can't believe that McTavish and those above her at the network are still employed.

Longtime veteran Julia Barr (Brooke) has chosen not to renew her contract when it's up at the end of this year. Publicly, she's always been very professional--even as she's moved so far to the back burner that she's barely on the stove. Her parting shot in the announcement that she would not be continuing with the show?: "I'm so proud to have been a part of a show that was once a television icon." You go Julia. I'm cheering you from the sidelines and I wish you the best of luck.

DOOL has made a fabulous turnaround and is my show of choice. AMC is off my radar now. If TPTB at ABC were smart (they're not) they'll notice that they're turning into roadkill being left to rot on the side the highway and do something about it.
