Step 1: Put your MP3 player or whatever on random.
Step 2: Post the first line(s) from the first 20 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing the song. (Skip the instrumentals, the remixes and the mashups)
Step 3: Let everyone you know guess what song and artist the lines come from.
Step 4: Strike out the songs when someone guesses correctly.

I did skip a few because otherwise it skewed too heavily to a soundtrack that's on the list. As it is, a handful from the soundtrack still show up.

1. Look around me, I can see my life before me running rings around the way it used to be. [livejournal.com profile] aizjanika ["Wasted on the Way," CSNY]

2.This thing called love, I just can’t handle it [livejournal.com profile] peacegood ["Crazy Little Thing Called Love," Queen]

3. Come on boy Potato’s in the paddy wagon, gotta get her out of there [livejournal.com profile] kimexlaimation [Potato's in the Paddy Wagon, The Main Street Singers]

4.I spent twenty years trying to get out of this place, I was looking for something I couldn’t replace

5. You, who are on the road, must have a code that you can live by [livejournal.com profile] uufarmgirl [Teach Your Children, CSN]

6.What I like about you (okay that's a gimme) [livejournal.com profile] aizjanika ["What I Like About You," The Romantics]

7. Why you wanna to tell me how to live my life

8. Whenever I’m out a-wandering, chasing a rainbow dream [livejournal.com profile] kimexlaimation [Old Joe's Place, The Folksmen]

9. I thought love was only true in fairy tales [livejournal.com profile] kimexclaimation [I'm a Believer, The Monkees]

10. You’re a real tough cookie with a long history of breaking little hearts like the one in me [livejournal.com profile] kimexclaimation ["Hit Me With Your Best Shot," Pat Benatar]

11. As I travel down the backroads of this home I love so much [livejournal.com profile] kimexclaimation ["A Mighty Wind"]

12. Oh when the veil of dreams has lifted and the fairy tales have all been told [livejournal.com profile] kimexclaimation ["Kiss at the End of the Rainbow," Mitch & Mickey]

13. Of all the things I believed in, I just want to get it over with

14. The tide is high but I’m holding on (another gimme) [livejournal.com profile] aizjanika ["The Tide is High," Blondie]

15. Somewhere over the rainbow way up high (gimme #3, but can you guess the artist?) [livejournal.com profile] kimexclaimation [Over the Rainbow/Wonderful World," Isaac K---]

16. Jesse is a friend [livejournal.com profile] uufarmgirl ["Jesse's Girl," Rick Springfield]

17. When I wake up, well I know I’m going to be I'm gonna be the man that wakes up next to you [livejournal.com profile] kimexclaimation ["I'm gonna be (500 miles)," The Proclaimers]

18. [oooh oooh oooh oooh] Black and orange cat sittin’ on a fence. [livejournal.com profile] kimexclaimation ["Stray Cat Strut," The Stray Cats]

19.This ain’t a song for the broken hearted [livejournal.com profile] aizjanika ["It's my Life," Bon Jovi]

20. If you start me up [start me up] I’ll never stop [livejournal.com profile] kimexclaimation ["Start Me Up," The Folksmen. And seriously one of the funniest renditions of a song that I've ever heard.]

Did I need to know the albums, too?

I knew you'd get that at least you'd get the Mighty Wind ones. :)

9. yes
10. yes
15. yes. Issac K (I couldn't possibly spell the rest without having a reference handy.)

And, are you feeling any better?

No, not feeling any better. Went to school yesterday, tuesdays are early out days, so it wasn't that big of a deal. Woke up at 3:45 in agony and knew I couldn't go today. All day yesterday I had kids asking me why I came to school if I was sick. One girl had a very thoughtful, logical conversation with me about how I should stay home. I adore her. When she does her work. *sigh* **cough**

So, was 20 right, too?

20 was right too. I accidentally skipped it on my first read.

Sorry you're still feeling crappy. :(

5 is Teach Your Children by CSN[Y]
16 is Jesse's Girl by Rick Springfield (wow, I miss the 80s...)
15 could be Harold Arlen et al or Eva Cassidy.

Heh. Most of my play list is like an ode to the 80s.

See, I could never do this because that's pretty much the last time I routinely listened to popular radio. I decided to try, and the first thing the shuffle put up is a song so obscure it came on a CD with a handprinted label. What are the chances of anyone else knowing what song starts "A boy was walking his bumblebee, he tied it to a string"? (Song of Sixpence by 4 & 20 Blackbirds, in case you're wondering...)

I do loves me some 80s music though. Hmmmmm.... hair metal....

#6: What I Like About You by the Rembrandts?

I think I should know #1, but the wrong melody comes into my head.

#19. Bon Jovi - Living on a Prayer

I seriously suck at this, so I'll go for the easy ones.

#14. The Tide is High by Blondie

Other people already got the ones I would have known:

Stray Cat Strut
Teach Your Children
I'm a Believer
Hit Me with Your Best Shot

I always get them confused too. There's another song on my list by the same group who did number 1 (CSN/Y).

Number 19 is close. Right group, wrong song. The others are right on.

It's amazing how unrecognizable first lines can be!

Thanks. hehe

Yeah, I knew #19 was Bon Jovi, but I don't know their songs well enough to know all the correct titles, although that mistake was stupid, because the title is in the chorus. So...is it...um...It's My Life? I want to go look that up in the worst way. lol It's so funny, too, because I had a thing for that song a week or so ago and added had it on all my in-the-car playlists.

I'm pretty sure that's right, though. I actually sent lyraeinne My Life by Frank Sinatra because of that song--just a couple of days ago. She really likes it, and she didn't know what the line "Like Frankie said, I did it my way..." meant. hehe

I know CSNY well, but I really suck at this lyrics game. Oftentimes, I don't even recognize songs that I know really well and listen to all the time--like nearly everyday. *g* When I did this, I couldn't remember which of my own songs were which right after I posted it.

Did you mean that #1 is by CSNY? Because that one's not guessed yet, and I know those lyrics so well. I even play that song on the guitar. lol

So, is #1 Wasted on the Way by CSNY? That's kind of cheating, though, since you hinted at the artist. I knew I knew the song, but in my head, I kept singing the wrong song, even though I knew it was the wrong song. I also knew that I recognized the lyrics. I just so suck and putting together lyrics and melody. (I also suck at "Play that Tune." hehe)

That's it! On both counts.

I'm just not good at not giving hints. :)

The lyrics to 4 & 7 sounded like lyrics by the band they are by, but I don't think I've ever actually heard those songs so I will not mention it.

I totally didn't expect 13 to be who it is. I kinda met that person at the Key Club in Hollywood one night.

Yeah, I noticed as I was writing them down that there does seem to be a recurring theme to the lyrics of that group's songs.
