The dog I have now (see icon) is one that I got directly from a breeder. I love him to pieces, though a part of me still feels a little conflicted about not getting a rescue. See, my first dog, Sheba, was a puppy mill rescue. She was a sweet girl and my heart dog. I always figured that any dog I ever got would an adopted rescue. But as often happens, things fell out in a way I didn't quite expect and I wound up with Tom. Even though I happened to go the route this time of a dog that got a good and healthy start at life, I still have a love for the throwaway dogs that are out there.
I bring all of this up because a friend at work sent a link to an excerpt of photos from a new book about strays who have found new and fulfilling lives. There are some lovely photos and stories here. I confess to tearing up more than once.
