Apparently the story of the newborn tossed from a car is not what it first appeared:

Story of Tossed Baby a Fabrication

That is so weird -- when I first read the story, that's the first thing I thought: "I bet the woman who brought the baby in is the mother, and she made up the whole story about the car." I was wondering if there were any other witnesses. Then I chided myself for being so cynical. Ah, well. But it's for the best, because (a) the baby wasn't thrown out of a window, 'cause that's gotta SUCK, and (b) I assume it'll be easier to terminate parental rights and put the baby up for adoption now. I hope that when he grows up he doesn't have to read any of these articles...

I kept wondering how a newborn was able to survive being thrown from a moving vehicle, but weird things happen all the time. This woman obviously has many problems and recognizes that she shouldn't be a mother. It's too bad that she didn't seem to know that she had other less dramatic options available to her.

Actually, babies and drunks are the most often the ones that survive being thrown from a moving vechicle because they don't tense up when they sense an impact coming.

But yes, I think more states should make known the Safe Haven Laws.
