Just about anything performed by Harry Chapin, but most especially "Cat's In The Cradle". *shudder* Though "In the Year 2525" should have an honorable mention.

I voted MacArthur Park, BUT I still laugh when I hear the Richard Harris version. Too. Funny.

Another one of those songs that leaves you wondering "who thought of this, and who thought it was a good idea?"

I want two votes, so I can torpedo MacArthur Park as well.

Thanks! I've gone from acceptance of the blue hair to totally loving it, so I felt I needed a new icon for it. *g*

I went with "In the Year 2525." That song is so bad that it really needs its own category of badness. I think it may be the LORD KING EMPEROR of bad songs.

I had never heard of that song until I read that column for the first time. Sometime after that, it was played by a local oldies station. I found it hard to believe that it was even recorded, much less actually ever received airtime.

Seriously. Whenever it came on the radio when I was a kid I would BEG my mother to change the station (for some unknown reason, she has no problem with that song.)

MacArthur Park, OTOH, my entire family would sing at the top of our lungs at every possible opportunity: "SOMEONE LEFT THE CAKE OUT IN THE RAIN..." because, yeah, that song sucks like nobody's business, but it's a funny kind of suck. :)

And I'm so glad Dave mentioned "Horse With No Name," because that is also scaaaary bad.

*I* was emotionally scarred by a song called "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy," sung by one of the most unattractive men on the planet.

There's just something about him that sets my teeth on edge. So many of his songs seem like they should be romantic or touching or something, but then I listen to the lyrics and they just fill me with the feeling of "blech."

Ok, I actually love "In the year 2525". Yes, I am a freak. And I've always been confused/freaked out by "Hotel California".

While I am right with you on most of those, the worst song, according to my siblings, is and always will be "Timothy" -- an obscure story song from the 70s, I think, that ends with "oh god, Tim, what did we do?" because the singer, you see, ATE TIMOTHY.

Yes, a pop song that talks about cannibalism.
Right up there with "Run, Joey, Run" and "Billy, Don't Be A Hero"

This? Made me laugh just reading it. Someday I need to hear this song.

Or maybe not. I'm torn.

I hit other so that I could abuse the song "Come on Eileen" which makes me physically ill when i hear it. I hate no song more than that one.

Rod Stewart's album Every Picture Tells a Story is a fantastic album. I like Hotel California, Stariway to Heaven and to Quote Sawyer form Lost, "Why doesn't like Bob Marley?" And I like Clapton's version of I Shot the Sheriff as well. McArthur Park is stupid and and I can't remember 2525, but I can't hate them as much as that song I mentioned.
