Interesting story about a movement to marginalize the crazy people who've been taking over the politics in the state. They'd hoped to get 25 people at the forum. 350 showed up. It's hard to know if that's indicative of a statewide movement since Lawrence is much more liberal than the rest of the state but it is encouraging. The Mainstream Coalition isn't particularly aligned with one political party over another. Their particular interest is in maintaining separation of church and state. One of the people quoted in the article makes the case as to why voting in the primaries is so important:
“We’ve had primaries where fewer than 10 percent of the eligible voters turn out,” Gamble said. “We’ve got to get the message out that primaries are important. That’s how the radicals have taken over; they know.”
