The thing about reading through one's older fics (and by interesting, I mean sometimes unsettling) is seeing things I could have done different/better/ etc.
Sometimes I see something and say "hey, that part worked better than I remembered." I find that preferable to "huh, I'm not sure that after all."
It's interesting. In an uneasy sort of way. And hopefully useful in the long run.

Date: 2009-04-20 03:30 pm (UTC)I go through phases if/when I reread fic. There's the relief phase of it's done. then there's going back and looking at it and saying this is dreck. Then there's even later and realizing, this wasn't as bad as I was thinking, and then there's always these little "changes" you want to make.
But unless it's a typo, I try and leave it alone. It is something to think about.

Date: 2009-04-20 04:16 pm (UTC)Even so, there still have been a couple times when I've swapped out words or judiciously pruned a sentence because the clean up compulsion was just too strong. (Unlike my compulsion to clean the bathroom. Which, sadly, is not nearly strong enough.)
