Once upon a time, or several years ago, I crocheted my very first afghan. It's kind of lopsided, but it was fun to do and at least the yarn is pretty even if the finished product would never win any prizes.

Many years later, on the previous Thanksgiving weekend I decided to start on another afghan. I fear that this one is going to wind up looking a little lopsided too. *sigh* But crocheting is a pleasant way to pass the time while watching television. And it makes me feel like I'm being semi-creative. It's actually a little bit addictive for me once I get started.

I need to get a life.

I'm not sure if I can do that. In my family, we crochet. ;)

When I was in law school I crocheted an afghan as a stress relief thing. I kept crocheting til Christmas break when I realized it was huge. I mean, huge. Have you read/seen Like Water for Chocolate? I haven't but a friend of mine said in it, there's a blanket that surrounds a house. She said she thought of that when she saw my afghan. Mine was also uneven. I think it was because of the different tension in my crocheting (sort of a measure of how stressed I might have been at the time I was doing it *g*) I recently did one in pieces and put them together like a patchwork quilt ~ large enough for a queen sized bed but not huge huge~ for a wedding present. That was much more even :)

In my family we crochet, too! Earlier in the year someone gave my mom some knitting needles and she gave them to me. They sat in my garage until I was going to be seeing [profile] gttygrl and I could give them to her!

Oh, and you need to learn to crochet hats. They go by pretty quickly and make nice gifts. And they're easier to keep from getting lopsided! If we're ever at a gathering at the same time again, I'll be more than happy to teach you to crochet hats.
